This is level 3: mixed questions involving the perimeters of polygons. The diagrams are not drawn to scale.

DiagramFind an expression, in its simplest form, for the perimeter of this heptagon.

Correct Wrong

Find the value of t if the perimeter of the heptagon is equal to 287 units.

Correct Wrong

DiagramFind an expression, in its simplest form, for the perimeter of this isosceles triangle.

Correct Wrong

Find the value of t if the perimeter of the triangle is equal to 35 units.

Correct Wrong

If however the perimeter of the triangle was equal to 65 units find the value of t in this case.

DiagramFind an expression, in its simplest form, for the perimeter of this shape.

Correct Wrong

Find the value of p if the perimeter of the triangle is equal to 288 units.

Correct Wrong

If however the perimeter of this shape was equal to 153 units find the value of p in this case.

Correct Wrong

A square and an equilateral triangle have perimeters of the same size. If the length on one side of the triangle is 4k units, find the length of one side of the square.

Correct Wrong

A regular pentagon and a regular octagon have perimeters of the same size. If the length on one side of the pentagon is 40w units, find the length of one side of the octagon.

Instructions

Try your best to answer the questions above. Type your answers into the boxes provided leaving no spaces. As you work through the exercise regularly click the "check" button. If you have any wrong answers, do your best to do corrections but if there is anything you don't understand, please ask your teacher for help.

When you have got all of the questions correct you may want to print out this page and paste it into your exercise book. If you keep your work in an ePortfolio you could take a screen shot of your answers and paste that into your Maths file.

Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician?

Comment recorded on the 25 June 'Starter of the Day' page by Inger.kisby@herts and essex.herts.sch.uk, :

"We all love your starters. It is so good to have such a collection. We use them for all age groups and abilities. Have particularly enjoyed KIM's game, as we have not used that for Mathematics before. Keep up the good work and thank you very much
Best wishes from Inger Kisby"

"An absolutely brilliant resource. Only recently been discovered but is used daily with all my classes. It is particularly useful when things can be saved for further use. Thank you!"

Each month a newsletter is published containing details of the new additions to the Transum website and a new puzzle of the month.

The newsletter is then duplicated as a podcast which is available on the major delivery networks. You can listen to the podcast while you are commuting, exercising or relaxing.

Go Maths

Learning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those. The Go Maths page is an alphabetical list of free activities designed for students in Secondary/High school.
