This is level 4: challenging questions involving the perimeters and areas of shapes. The diagrams are not drawn to scale.

DiagramFind an expression, in its simplest form, for the perimeter of this shape.

Correct Wrong

Find the value of g if the perimeter of the shape is equal to 74 units.

Correct Wrong

DiagramThe base of this triangle is 16 units and its height is 7w - 1 units. Find an expression for the triangle's area.

Correct Wrong

Find the value of w if the area of the triangle is equal to 608 square units.

Correct Wrong

DiagramThe length of this rectangle is three times as long as its width. Find the length if the perimeter is 54.4 units.

Correct Wrong

The area of a square in square centimetres is numerically equal to its perimeter in centimetres. How many centimetres long is one side of the square?

Correct Wrong

A kite has a perimeter of 3108 millimetres. It's longer sides are ten percent longer than its shorter sides. Find the length in millimetres of one of the shorter sides.

Correct Wrong

Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician?

Comment recorded on the 16 March 'Starter of the Day' page by Mrs A Milton, Ysgol Ardudwy:

"I have used your starters for 3 years now and would not have a lesson without one! Fantastic way to engage the pupils at the start of a lesson."

Go Maths

Learning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those. The Go Maths page is an alphabetical list of free activities designed for students in Secondary/High school.
