Transum Calculator

An interactive scientific calculator designed for classroom demonstrations and online tuition.

This on-screen calculator is designed as a visual aid for teachers. It can be projected onto a whiteboard for whole-class teaching or used during online tuition, where its display can be shown or shared with students.

It is designed to resemble the scientific calculators commonly used in UK secondary schools and includes many of the functions students are likely to need. However, it does not reproduce every feature of a modern handheld scientific calculator.

This calculator is intended for teaching and demonstration purposes only. Please do not rely on it for important real-world calculations, such as completing your tax return, as its accuracy and reliability cannot be guaranteed to the same standard as a professionally manufactured calculator.

This calculator is designed for a teacher to display to a class in order to demonstrate the basic functions of a scientific calculator. It does not reproduce every calculation that a real hand-held calculator can perform.

Floating the calculator opens it in its own window, which can be manually resized to fill your screen.

Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician?

Comment recorded on the 10 April 'Starter of the Day' page by Mike Sendrove, Salt Grammar School, UK.:

"A really useful set of resources - thanks. Is the collection available on CD? Are solutions available?"

Comment recorded on the 14 October 'Starter of the Day' page by Inger Kisby, Herts and Essex High School:

"Just a quick note to say that we use a lot of your starters. It is lovely to have so many different ideas to start a lesson with. Thank you very much and keep up the good work."

Numeracy

"Numeracy is a proficiency which is developed mainly in Mathematics but also in other subjects. It is more than an ability to do basic arithmetic. It involves developing confidence and competence with numbers and measures. It requires understanding of the number system, a repertoire of mathematical techniques, and an inclination and ability to solve quantitative or spatial problems in a range of contexts. Numeracy also demands understanding of the ways in which data are gathered by counting and measuring, and presented in graphs, diagrams, charts and tables."

Go Maths

Learning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those. The Go Maths main page links to more activities designed for students in upper Secondary/High school.
