P.L.S. Trip to Criccieth

15th May 1982

On Saturday 15th all the PLs, myself and Robert Bood met outside the Scout hut at 9:00 o'clock. We started by getting all the equipment out: tents, food and utensils. After we had got all the equipment, me, Andrew Peek, Robert Bood and No. 1 went in Bosun's car. There was Paul Smith, David Ashton and Michael Peters in another car. We were off on the way.

No. 1 lent me a walkie-talkie so that No. 1 and Bosun could keep in touch and get back to each other. On the way we passed at least fifty pubs playing cricket, and our car won 24 to 9. When we had got into Wales we passed toll bridges. When we got to the camp we had a little trouble finding the site, then we all put our uniforms on because we thought another Scout troop would be there to greet us, but there was not, so we went looking for them and they were in the other field.

When we got there we had a race putting the tents up. Of course we won. Bosun and No. 1 had to buy us a bottle of pop each. After we had put the tents up and sorted our personal gear out, we went swimming. Bosun stopped by the tents to fix his watch, but after we had finished our swim we came back up to the tents and he was asleep.

When we saw they had changed, No. 1 asked us if we wanted a hot dog and we all said yes please. Then we went and had a look around at their tents and what they did at camp. Then No. 1 called us to get our hot dog. We queued up, but we had to pay. Paul Smith and I did not have any money, so No. 1 and Bosun lent us 15p each to have a hot dog.

Then we planned the programme for the weekend camp and played some games, then went to bed. Next morning we got woken by No. 1 and started to cook breakfast. We had corn flakes, bacon, egg and beans. Then we went to Black Rock Sands and had a packed lunch, played sardines, and then Mark Bood navigated us back to the Scout hut. No. 1 asked me to write the whole thing and gave us each a piece of paper. Michael O'Neill wrote this.
