The Great Pancake Race

On the 24th of February the 37th Wton Sea Scouts challenged the 1st Fallings Park Guides to a Pancake Race. The pancake race was due to start at 11:00am, which it did not. At about a quarter to eleven people started to arrive. At first the Guides would not come into the Scout hut, but then one or two came in and the next thing we knew we were overrun by Guides. It was very clear that there were more Guides than Scouts.

Number one sent Andy Bates out to collect money and Robert Bood. When everybody had come they would sign their names on a board and the person who was opposite them they would race.

Guides listed were Lisa H, Paula P, Karen Witton, W Meezon and Joanne D. Scouts listed were Andy Bates, Andy Key, Andy Tipple, Gary Williams and Paul Barnes.

After everyone had signed their names we fell in. Then number one strolled to the front of the hut and explained all of the rules. Next he asked for a captain of the Scouts and a captain of the Guides. All the hands from the Scouts flew at David Onions, while on the other hand the Guides decided calmly and collected. They had a unanimous decision. They all voted for Karen Witton.

They both came out and stood shoulder to shoulder. Number one stood facing each other. He had two frying pans behind his back. We had the dirty one. The next thing they did was to choose which pancake they wanted. The Scouts chose the green one and the Guides had a yellow one. We all went to our places where we would run. Everything was ready. The race started.
