The Canoe to Coven

We got to the Scout hut at about 9:30. When No. 1 came we all got into the minibus and set off to Valley Park School. We got the canoes ready and had a little practice before setting off. After about seven miles the Scouts at the back saw No. 1 at the side of the canal. He told us there was a shop around the corner, so we went there and had something to eat. We set off again looking for a bridge where we had to meet No. 1. When we found the bridge we put the canoes on the side of the canal and looked for him. He came and told us to hurry up or we would miss tea.

At the campsite we put the canoes into a shed and put the tents up. We played football and went to sleep. Next morning No. 1 woke us. Some of us went to a birdwatchers' hut by a lake, then had breakfast. After breakfast we packed everything, got the canoes ready and went home the same way, stopping at a shop for a bite to eat. We got back to the 35th Scout hut at about 3 o'clock. By Wayne Bailey.
