The Chief Scout's Visit

The 3rd Wednesfield van was packed with archery gear and the cars were fitted with canoes. Everything was ready, so we left for Killock. When we arrived we unloaded the gear, apart from the canoes, which stayed on No. 1's car and were driven down to the canal. I paddled in the canoes demonstrating different strokes with Rob Bood, Vince Murray and Kevin Farley.

The Chief Scout walked around the Scout hut looking at the different things going on. Mark Spruce was doing archery with his own bow. The Chief Scout then came to the canoes and said that whoever went down by the lock and had a race would win £1. We were placed in age to start and I was first. Kevin began to turn and stopped Vince from gaining, so I won the pound. After that we had a cup of tea and biscuits, loaded the gear back into the vans and the canoes onto the cars, and all went home. By Mister T, Gareth Jones.
