Wednesday 15th August
We all got up at 8:00 followed by a wash and breakfast of grapefruit, sausages, tomatoes and scrambled eggs. At 10:00 we went to flagbreak and inspection. Starboard watch did boating skills and port watch did the Great Adventure hike. All morning we practised canoe strokes and capsize drill. Alan Jones and I were hesitant about the capsize drill, but did it. At about 3:00pm a fire was lit on the other side of the lake, signalling that the others had finished the hike and were waiting to be picked up. No. 1, Don, Bosun and I went over to pick them up in boats. Tea was mixed grill, stewed apples and custard.
After tea the whole troop took part in a rescue competition. This went on for two hours. After flagdown there was a game of shadowing, where leaders patrolled the site and Scouts had to move between stunts without being caught. Supper was cheese and biscuits and soup.
Thursday 16th August began with breakfast of cereals, bacon, eggs and mushrooms. The incident course included raft building, a car accident, boiling water in a paper bag, orienteering, outdoor survival skills and making a kite. Lunch was beefburgers and cake.
