After making the raft our two raftsmen went downstream. This was the first problem we solved successfully. After taking the raft to bits we returned to cook our Backwoods meal: Spud Eggs, chocolate bananas, baked apples and fish. The fish was wrapped in wet newspaper and left on the fire, but it burned to ashes. At Bigsweir Bridge the next problem was to get water from a canal up a tree into a bucket using only natural materials. After our failed attempt we returned to the site.
The evening meal was stew and dumplings and instant whip. Unfortunately only the leaders had enough instant whip, so the Scouts had to drink it. After washing up some Scouts went around the site dressed oddly to invite people to our campfire. At flagdown we collected wood ready for the campfire. At about 9pm the campfire was ready and each patrol did a stunt. There was much singing. When the fire died down we returned to the marquee for tuck shop, crisps and coffee, before bed.
