Cool Chelo - The Towans

Friday 1st - Sunday 10th 1983

We all met at Falkland Street in town at about 7:30pm and the coach was already waiting for us. When we were all on the coach and the rucksacks were in the boot, the coach set off and at 2nd Busbury's Scout Leader headquarters at the M6 we came out to see if anybody was there.

The coach journey took about three hours and on the way Dave Ehlen came round telling us what groups we were in for the duties. I was in group B with another six Scouts. There was only four from the 37th Wolverhampton Sea Scouts who were Andy Bates, Robert Bood, No. 1 and myself, but that did not stop me because I already knew a few from previous camps.

When we got to the houses we grabbed our rucksacks and took them to the dormitories. I was sharing a dormitory with Andy Bates, Andy Denner, Robert Bood and Eddy. When we finished doing the beds we heard a bell, which meant we all had to meet in the dining hall for a bowl of soup. Before we ate our soup one of the instructors told us about the duties and activities, then we went down to the cellars to get our equipment, including waterproofs, trousers, crash helmets, a little rucksack and a pair of hiking boots. Then we put them in the changing rooms and went to bed.
