Knights of the Circular Table

A royal seating investigation for brave pattern spotters, careful counters, and anyone willing to seat a few knights at the round table. This is level 3.

King Arthur and the knights around the circular table

The Quest

The combination of knights and chairs you have chosen may not produce a solvable puzzle. Investigate!

    Create Your Own Puzzle

Now that you have tried the original puzzle, you can investigate what happens when there are different numbers of knights and chairs. Which arrangements allow you to find a solution, and which arrangements seem impossible? This is an investigation, so you can continue the activity by making up your own questions and looking more deeply at the mathematics behind the situation.

The solutions to this and other Transum puzzles, exercises and activities are available here when you are signed in to your Transum subscription account. If you do not yet have an account and you are a teacher, tutor or parent you can apply for one by completing the form on the Sign Up page.
