This is level 1: problems involving numbers generally up to 12. You may not need all of the information given in the question. You can earn a trophy if you get at least 7 questions correct and you do this activity online.

1) After his birthday party Alex had 9 milk chocolates and 6 plain chocolates left out of 2 boxes. How many chocolates did Alex have altogether?
2) Alexa went for a 7km walk on her 12th birthday but she quickly became tired and travelled the last 1km by bus. How many kilometers did Alexa actually walk?
3) In a shop there are 9 vases arranged on 2 shelves. In each vase there were 3 flowers. How many flowers were there altogether?
4) Alexis likes to have 2 oranges squeezed to make orange juice every morning. It takes 6 minutes to do the squeezing. How many oranges does Alexis use in a whole week?
5) In a class of twenty seven pupils there are nine friends who have been given a box of thirty six crayons to share equally between themselves. How many crayons will each of the friends receive?
6) Alyssa is 8 years old. She is four years older than her brother and five years older than her sister. How old is Alyssa's brother?
7) Amanda scored 7 points in the first round of the quiz. She then scored 8 points in the second round and 12 points in the third round. What was the total number of points Amanda scored in all three rounds?
8) This week one hundred and ten cakes were set out in rows of 11 on a shop counter. Last week they were set out in rows of 22. How many rows were there this week?
9) Andrea measured the heights of the three trees in her garden. The heights were 4m, 5m and 8m. What was the difference in heights of the tallest tree and the shortest tree?
10) Andrew multiplies one of the numbers in the list below by another number in the list. The answer he got was also a number in the list. What product did Andrew get? 3579111520

Instructions Try your best to answer the questions above. Type your answers into the boxes provided leaving no spaces. As you work through the exercise regularly click the "check" button. If you have any wrong answers, do your best to do corrections but if there is anything you don't understand, please ask your teacher for help. When you have got all of the questions correct you may want to print out this page and paste it into your exercise book. If you keep your work in an ePortfolio you could take a screen shot of your answers and paste that into your Maths file.

Vocabulary for Arithmetic

The total when numbers are added is called the sum
minuend − subtrahend = difference
multiplicand × multiplier = product
dividend ÷ divisor = quotient
