We packed all the stuff away and went back home in the cars. It was a very good party and I enjoyed it very much.

Horse Riding
19th January 1982
On Tuesday 19th January, 20 Scouts went horse riding at a riding school on the outskirts of Sedgley. The car that I was in was first to arrive at the school. As soon as we got out of the car we were greeted by a sheep dog barking around our heels. We waited for the other cars to arrive and then went through the gate and met a woman called Helen. She took us into the hut and we got our hats on. Then we waited until everyone had got the right sized hats and went outside to get our horses.
As soon as we got outside the hut another dog came up to us. This time it was an Alsatian. We walked past it and walked up to the stables. The other riding instructor took the bigger Scouts and my sister Vicki, who also went over to the stables where the larger horses were. The smaller Scouts went to the sheds where the ponies were.
When everybody had got their horse we were led into a big arena. There was a space with chairs at one end for spectators. We had to get our horses in a line and then mount them. When everybody had done that we started going round the arena in a big circle. My horse's name was Sooty. He would not go very fast, so Helen told me to say "Gee up Sooty" and to tap the horse in the side with my heel. Then we had to go in loops around Helen and another girl. After we had done that we did a trot. This is just a little bit faster than a walk.
