The Christmas Party
28th December 1981
On Friday everyone arrived at the church hall to be taken to the Rocky Pool youth centre to have our party. It made a change from having it in the church hall. When Nick Smith and I arrived there the others were playing games. There was a game where you had to light as many candles as you could, and pillow fights. There was also a game with two patrols. Everybody had brought a small present to put in the lucky dip. I had brought a Loco rod and I picked out some bubble bath.
Later we started to eat the stuff. There were sticks of crisps and cakes. As the night drew on we all gathered around the telly to watch Superman on a video. The film was very good even though I had seen it before. Halfway through the film there was a five minute break in the middle. We all had a bag of crisps again.
In the second half of the film I fell asleep and woke up just as everybody was going into their sleeping bags. No. 1 was keeping a close eye on Nick Smith, Paul Smith, Mickey O'Neil and me. Just as I was going to sleep Mickey O'Neil kicked me in the leg. I shouted out and No. 1 came charging into the room. He told me to separate from them, and he did the same to Mickey O'Neil. I woke up about 7 o'clock and went outside with Nick Smith. Rocky Pool had frozen over. Nick and I walked over it. It was very slippery.
I went to tell the others and they came out. No. 1 called us in and there was another video film on. It was called Death Race 2000. It was about cars with spikes on the front running into people for points. When the film had finished we went outside for twenty minutes. We came in, watched another film called Westworld and then The Key. It was one of the funniest films I have ever seen.
