Summer Camp 1981

25th July - 1st August

Rudyard Lake

Early on Saturday morning, at about 9:00am, Scouts started to congregate in the car park. As soon as the coach arrived, the last bit of equipment and all personal gear was placed on board. Seeing as the two minibuses had already been filled with gear the previous night, we got off to a brisk start and were soon chugging down the motorway in a large convoy. No. 1 in the red minibus, Bosun in the yellow minibus, the coach and last but by no means least Windy Miller alias Tony Square in his own car.

When on the motorway Neil Quinton gave out the copies of the Pennant, which had been going strong for two years now. Smart on time we arrived at the campsite. However one slight technical hitch, basically the coach was too big for the short track meant for many people a fair walk with their gear to the campsite from the coach. But one or two people decided to cheat and jump on to the back of the minibus. Half way down the track No. 2 stopped, so Robert Bood got off in order to add his rucksack in his other hand. However, whilst he was doing this No. 2 started off again, leaving a running on the back of the bus and Robert Bood. The runaway was soon fetched by Steven Hopkins, but he didn't last very long. Due to the lack of foot room he put his on the wheel which resulted in him being thrown off into a large puddle and cutting his hand. This provided us with an early laugh and Steven with an early bath plus the honour of being the first person to officially use the first aid kit at camp.
