Snowdon Camp
20-21 June '81
The nine people who went on this camp were myself, No. 1, Mr Ashton, Robert Bood, Steven Hopkins, Andrew Bates, Andrew Peek, David Ashton and Gerbil Jarvis.
We were all picked up in Mr Ashton's Land Rover at about 6 o'clock on Saturday. When we were all aboard we went to Albrighton to pick Hopkins up. The journey went well, apart from we were very squashed and Gerbil was not feeling well.
We arrived in the car park at about 9 o'clock, where we checked the weather forecast before beginning to climb. We had been walking for about three quarters of an hour before we reached the lake by where we were going to camp. We pitched the tents and emptied our rucksacks of all but the essentials.
At about 11 o'clock we started the climb to the top of Snowdon. The trip up was very tiring, so we had plenty of rests including one to eat our dinner. We finally reached the summit at about 2:15pm. We just got there in time before the bar shut and we all had a shandy on the top. Some of us set a troop record. We played Space Invaders at 3,560 feet. After about an hour at the top we slowly walked back down.
Well, nearly all of us. Gerbil got back to camp about half an hour before the rest of us. We all reckoned that he has plenty of training on his bike. When we were all back at camp we started cooking the dehydrated food. We had vegetable stew, mash, and for pudding we had Regal pudding.
