Think about that!

8th March 1981.

We met at the Scout hut at 9:00am and set off for Patshull camp site in 2 cars. We arrived there at 9:45am and chose a site to get a fire going. We ran down to the pond and walked back. Plenty of wood to get a fire going with did start first time. Plenty of wood was piled on and we went to have a game of releasing, which of course the PLs won comfortably.

By the time we returned to the fire there were plenty of hot embers to cook the backwoods meal which included jacket potatoes, spud eggs, kebabs and mini meals. There were also some rather more unusual dishes: bacon sandwiches, whereby the bacon was put in with the bread in the silver foil and allowed to cook.

After dinner No. 1 arrived and so we set up a tracking trail around the woods. However no one could find Stephen Hopkins. We cleared up around the fire a bit and then S. Hopkins arrived. A. Adey and I went to see what he had been up to. It appeared he had tried to drain the woods. No. 1 was not very pleased, so we all relaid a sort of warning and Hopkins retired to a sandy pile. We continued to tidy up, put the fire out, then went and played on some springy trees for a while.
