Raid on 2nd Bushbury
The previous Friday the patrol leaders council planned a raid on the 2nd Bushbury Sea Scouts. We were to set off at the Scout hut at 7:30pm, dressed in black clothing, a mask and with a gun. When the hour came only Robert Bood had turned up. We waited until 7:50 when we decided that we would go and pick Andrew Adey.
When we got to his house we were told that he had been down the Scout hut and that he could not pick us up. While he was ready we went down to the 2nd Bushbury's hut. Outside the hut we found David Onions. He had forgotten all about the raid until about five minutes previously, and as his mother was at Cubs he had to get Mr Ray to give him a lift.
Now we had everyone we needed. We put on our masks and got ready. No. 1 hid a pile of gun powder which caused a lot of smoke and then we were in. We sneaked in to his mum getting ready to drive off when we came out. There we were shouting and waving our guns about. David Onions put down a little which is explained below, then we ran out.
The last two lines tell you what should have happened. I do not really know what happened because as I ran in my now-brave decided to go for a quick fly, and as my feet were in them I went flying straight on to my back. I was dying to laugh but I managed to control myself.
We got outside and into John's mini. We drove off as fast as we could. It was when we got round the corner that we realised that Rob Bood was no longer with us. We thought that he had been kidnapped, but he came running over the road towards us.
The letter was really challenging the 2nd Bushbury to a canoe race at Albright Junction. It told them that they would need four canoes and 12 canoes. No doubt you will hear more about the race further down in this book. Andrew Bate.
