Halloween Hike

31st October

On the 31st October we didn't have a proper Scout meeting. We had a Halloween hike because it was Halloween. There were quite a few Scouts there including myself. We all set out in Bosun and Corn's car, while we were on our way we saw some old people wondering what we were doing meanwhile the PLs, Bosun and Corn, were getting things organised ready for when we passed, so that they could frighten us.

Our first part of the journey was to walk from the Scout Headquarters to the Pheasant. Then we walked up Linthouse Lane to the fields on the other side of the road. We crossed over the road and walked down a public footpath which led us to a field. There were a few stiles which we had to scramble over. This path led into a field which we walked through to get to the main road. We were just reaching the middle of the field when one of us shouted look, and as we looked to our left we saw some ghosts moving towards us, which were really Bosun and Corn covered in white sheets.

We continued walking until we came to a very narrow road which no. 1 guided us across. After we had crossed the road Paul Barnes, David Ashton, Gary Williams and myself saw some lights flashing in some trees. It was like Morse code and cries of help. We carried on our journey by going down a little lane, where we saw a blue van which had only the embers left, which glowed in the dark.

Next we walked along a field which led us up to a certain house, as we had walked down a little road, soon we reached a little roundabout where no. 1 gave out some life savers which were sweets which were rather like polos but smelt like a dentist's surgery. As we carried on down a lane we all tried the sweets out. Suddenly a ghost appeared and chased us down the lane. We ran fast and put a life saver in our mouth. The next thing we knew was that Gary Williams had been caught by two gorillas which had kidnapped him.

As we came off the lane we had reached a field where we saw a ghost moving about. As soon as he saw it we all ran after it to try and catch it, but no. 1's vicious Scouts caught him red handed. We took the sheet off and there was Corn puffed out of breath. From then, there was no more excitement, but it was a very frightening night. By Richard Casey.
