The opening of the new Scout hut

On the 19th October the long awaited Scout hut was opened. All the Scouts were there, and even though only we as young ones turned out, they turned just that little more special than normal.

The church service was conducted by an ex-preacher of Fallings Park Methodist church, and we all enjoyed the stories he told us very much. After the service we and the congregation went outside to the hut for the opening. The congregation had a great deal of ceremony in it, but we learned it because the district commissioner Mr Stanley and the county commissioner Mr Gittins opened the door with the key and cut the tape.

The clergy then went into the hut and blessed it. Then the whole process was repeated for the benefit of the photographers. This very important occasion in the history of the Scout hut was very well received on film for posterity. The congregation next had a tour of the hut which had an ornate brochure display of photos.
