Seagull won. This was the third time on the trot that Seagull had won the annual prize. The prizes were given out, the flag taken down and we boarded the coach. On the way home we stopped at a service station and dashed for the Space Invaders and the shop. After our half hour stop we started home again, reaching the Scout hut and parents at about 5:30pm. Before going home we quickly emptied the vans, then went home for a hot meal and hot bath.

Epilogue: at the end of camp, and during the week after it, at least half of the participants went down with the mystery bug which struck the camp and left people stranded in bed for days. There was absolutely no rain at all.

Visit to Sutton Park

Saturday 17th-18th September

We met at the Scout hut at 11am on Saturday and got the necessary equipment ready, including food, tents, boats, sails and anything else needed. We split into cars and arrived at Sutton Park at about midday. Some set up the boats while others put up the tent. At 1:30pm the events began. My first event was the under-13s rowing; we came second and reached the semi-finals, but later came last. I also took part in under-15s rowing and came third out of three.

After tea of potatoes and stew we went to the cinema to see the latest James Bond film, Octopussy. When we returned to camp we had hot tomato soup and went to bed. Next morning we could not find anywhere to wash. We went to the fair and paid 10p to go on the swing boats. After dinner we walked around the park. No. 1, Bosun, David Pope, Mark Garner and Peter Peek said they would kidnap some of us, but we were ready for them and they failed. On the way back we stopped at a shop and later packed the tent and boat away. Peter Wheeler.
