Everybody met at the vans at the specified time and were transported back to camp without incident. Everyone pottered around until it was time for the Rapture of Merriment Party. We entered the marquee and sat in patrols. The banquet had fourteen courses with entertainment between each course. The courses included baked potatoes, sausages, cider, celery with cream cheese, onion rings and the speciality, chicken. Entertainment included a magic show, rice pudding feeding and lots of singing.
Towards the end everybody got a certificate. Alan Jones got one for having the funniest handkerchief in camp. Once all the jollifications were over, all the food eaten and all the drink drunk, it was time for bed.
The last day in camp began with Robert Jeffreys imitating farm animals. Breakfast was fritters, tomatoes and eggs. The rest of the morning was spent striking camp. All patrol tents, leaders' tents, store tents and toilet tents had to be taken down. The marquee was difficult to bring down. The pits had to be filled, vans packed and other jobs done in sweltering heat. Dinner was sandwiches and fruit. Seagull got an incredible 130 out of 130 in inspection. When the coach arrived it had a toilet at the back and a drinks machine, though it was not working. After everything was packed away and only the flagpole remained, we had final divisions and the PLs added up their money.
