The next day we had a patrol competition to make luminous semaphore flags. By this time it had gone dark, and the wide game was called Down the Nile. Andy Bates had to find a camel, receive a matchstick, then find a gorilla with a match. There were lemon lions, mulemen, a crocodile and other characters. Cormorant and Kingfisher each won and a strange search for the PLs began in the dark. When this was completed we went to bed.
In the morning we had Weetabix, bacon, egg and fried bread, followed by flagbreak and inspection. We then had a sedan chair rally between the patrols; Mallard won. After that we had a runner competition in which each patrol split into two groups and raced. After lunch, which was a ploughman's, there was an incident roundabout. Incidents included finding as many jemmyings as possible, making coffee while keeping arms away from a hot pan, and making a slingshot. After the incidents were completed we cooked on an open fire.
After flagbreak the troop went to collect wood for the campfire. Despite the dampness of the wood, the fire would not light properly. The next morning we had sausages and beans for breakfast. After flagbreak and inspection we left for a trip around the Safari Park. No. 1 drove the minibus, but because he could not get past he ran into the back of the Land Rover, which dented a wing. Fortunately it was mended in time. At 4 o'clock we left for Wolverhampton. Final points: Redshank 95, Cormorant 87, Mallard 70, Kingfisher 68. A. Peek.
