## Transum.org

This web site contains over a thousand free mathematical activities for teachers and pupils. Click here to go to the main page which links to all of the resources available.

## More Activities:

Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician?

Comment recorded on the 2 May 'Starter of the Day' page by Angela Lowry, :

"I think these are great! So useful and handy, the children love them.
Could we have some on angles too please?"

Comment recorded on the 14 September 'Starter of the Day' page by Trish Bailey, Kingstone School:

"This is a great memory aid which could be used for formulae or key facts etc - in any subject area. The PICTURE is such an aid to remembering where each number or group of numbers is - my pupils love it!
Thanks"

Each month a newsletter is published containing details of the new additions to the Transum website and a new puzzle of the month.

The newsletter is then duplicated as a podcast which is available on the major delivery networks. You can listen to the podcast while you are commuting, exercising or relaxing.

Transum breaking news is available on Twitter @Transum and if that's not enough there is also a Transum Facebook page.

#### Digital Darts

An online darts game for one or two players requiring skill, strategy and mental arithmetic. It provides an enjoyable way to practise adding and subtracting two and three digit numbers.

## Numeracy

"Numeracy is a proficiency which is developed mainly in Mathematics but also in other subjects. It is more than an ability to do basic arithmetic. It involves developing confidence and competence with numbers and measures. It requires understanding of the number system, a repertoire of mathematical techniques, and an inclination and ability to solve quantitative or spatial problems in a range of contexts. Numeracy also demands understanding of the ways in which data are gathered by counting and measuring, and presented in graphs, diagrams, charts and tables."

## Go Maths

Learning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those. The Go Maths main page links to more activities designed for students in upper Secondary/High school.

## Description of Levels

Close

Level 1 - Mathematical words containing 5 letters

Level 2 - Mathematical words containing 6 letters

Level 3 - Mathematical words containing 7 letters

Level 4 - Mathematical words containing 8 letters

Level 5 - Mathematical words containing 9 letters

Equatero - A similar game requiring you to guess a mathematical expression.

More Puzzles - all with a mathematical theme.

Answers to this exercise are available lower down this page when you are logged in to your Transum account. If you don’t yet have a Transum subscription one can be very quickly set up if you are a teacher, tutor or parent.

Currently the greatest number of points earned in the last month for this level (Level 1) has been achieved by Dparr with 117 points on Monday, August 26, 2024. Can you beat that? If you can make sure you claim a trophy because that is how good scores are officially recognised.

## Example

Suppose I am thinking of the word METRE

You have to try and gress what my word is.

For your first guess you may type in AOMRE

When you have finished typing the tiles will change colour. The colours are the clues:

Now have another guess at my word. Use the clues that you have been given.

You will earn points for guessing my word correctly. When you have earned enough points you can claim a trophy.

Words are cosen randomly from the database of words that might be used in a mathematics lesson. It is possible that a word you have already guessed pops up for a second outing.
