Area and Perimeter of a Parallelogram

This is level 6.

A parallelogram has an area of 39mm². It's sides are of length 5mm and 13mm. How far apart are its longest sides?

mm Correct Wrong

The length of the base of a parallelogram is three times its perpendicular height. The area of the paralleogram is 432cm² and its perimeter is 90cm. Find the length of the base of this parallelogram.

The lengths of the sides of a parallelogram, measured in metres, are 7x and 8x. If the perimeter of the parallelogram is 60 metres. Find the value of x.

The numerical value of the perimeter of a parallelogram in centimetres is equal to the numerical value of the area in square centimetres. If the base of the parallelogram is twice the perpendicular height and the sloping side of the parallelogram is three times the perpendicular height, find the perimeter of the parallelogram.

U and V are the midpoints of sides BC and CD respectively, of parallelogram ABCD. The area of triangle AUV is 27cm². Find the area of the parallelogram ABCD

"The questions in the six levels of this of exercises range from the laughingly easy to the head-scratchingly hard. The last question of level 6 was adapted from one that appeared on a Senior Mathematical Challenge (JMC) paper.

The SMC is a 90-minute, multiple-choice competition from the UK Mathematics Trust aimed at students (Year 13 and below) across the UK. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The problems on the Senior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience."
