• This is a great starter - I used it with a year 9 class prior to a lesson on trial and improvement and it really got their brains in gear.

• Am I being completely thick here? I can see how you can work out the 8 teams, but where is the criteria that tells you how to ascertain who played who?

• Start with the simple fact that if every game is taking place Tuesday night, anyone that is listed as a possible winner in one persons list CANNOT be playing each other, since they wouldn't both be able to win.

• With the clues given I got Derby v Bradford and Wolves v Leeds. Not enough info for the other 4 teams.

• Leeds v Bradford, Millwall v Coventry, Wolves v Derby, Crewe v Stoke - we drew out a table and eliminated teams.

• There is definitely enough information to work out the teams, this is a really good 10 minute starter to engage minds, 10/10 would use again!

• This is a great functional maths/problem solving starter. You can even change the team names.
  How to solve it:
  1. Establish the names of the 8 teams
  2. Draw a two way table with the 8 teams across and down
  3. Start working out who cannot play whom (if they are in a list of winners they cannot be playing each other)
  4. Once you have a “fixture” you know that team is not playing one of the other teams.
