Square numbers will crop up countless times in many different areas of Mathematics and the pupils will benefit if they recognise them quickly. This non-calculator Starter is very easy for the teacher to organise and for the pupils to understand. It differentiates by outcome, and gives the teacher a few minutes to get the rest of the lesson ready.
