Sea Scout Meet Sutton Park

19th-20th September

Starter for PL's.

Scouts: No. 1, Windy Miller (for one day), Squish and Neal Q.

PLs: myself, Andrew Key, David Ashton, Paul Smith, Andrew Peek and Michael Peters.

This one night camp was a meeting of Sea Scouts from all over the district. There were various boat races including sailing, rowing, sculling and canoeing.

We met at the Scout hut and loaded the cars with equipment and arrived at Sutton Park at about 11:30am. We pitched the tents in a square of trees right on the shoreline of a pool. Paul Smith and I had to row the Mirror across the lake ready for the sailing race which David Ashton and Andrew Peek had been entered for.

We managed to get across the lake all right and tied the boat up. We then returned to the tents and began to make our lunch. I was drinking a bottle of milk when David Ashton made me laugh and I spilt it on the groundsheet. We made our way to the Sea Scout hard for flag break. Michael Peters was writing names on bibs with the wrong felt pen and, while I was leaning on David Ashton's sandwich box, the pen went through the bib and made red marks all over the box.

At 2:30pm it was time for myself and Paul Smith to take part in the pulling race. It was raining and we were in T-shirts under life jackets. At about 3:00pm the race was due to start, and the boats were lowered to the start by a motor boat.
