The Wrekin Camp
28th-30th May 1983
We all met at Woburn Road at 9am on Saturday morning. We helped get the equipment into the coach. The weather was not very good; we had some rain. We arrived at the Wrekin at about 10:15 and set up camp. It was very muddy everywhere. While Bosun and Jill made lunch, we went for a walk up to the summit of the Wrekin. It was very slippery and steep. The summit is about 1,335 feet above sea level.
Later we had a campfire and were joined by Scouts from another pack. We sang songs and sketches and had soup for supper. Sunday morning breakfast was Weetabix, bacon and eggs, beans and tea. Later we had games including welly throwing, Frisbee throwing and ball games. It was so muddy everywhere that we had a game called mud bath. For lunch we had ploughman's lunch and for supper hot dogs. On Monday after breakfast we dismantled the tents, loaded the coach and returned to the Scout hut.
Summer Camp 83 - Wyedean
7th-14th August 1983
Early Sunday morning the Scouts met at the hut ready for the annual summer camp. When the coach arrived the first thing was to load all the kit, trestles, chairs and flagpole. At about 9:45am our mini-convoy set off. We had one stop on the way at a motorway service station, but soon seemed to be there. With our pennants firmly stored away in our bags, we began emptying all the vehicles and turning the field into a small housing estate. The weather was boiling hot and soon people were asking for the big juice.
