Ms Tayke does not want anyone to know how old she is. We think she is 1027 but she often subtracts 26 from her age to make her feel younger.

Answers

Pupil 1: "I subtracted 26 from 1027 three hundred times ... but I got the answer 1001 every time!"

Teacher: "That's correct, but everyone else in the class will have divided 1027 by 26 and given the whole number part of the answer which is 39"

Pupil 2: "I think the answer is infinite as you can subtract 26 as many times as you like as long as you understand negative numbers!"

Note to teacher: Doing this activity once with a class helps students develop strategies.
