Memorable Measures

Student presenting a visual aid for measures

Your mission

Bring to the next Mathematics lesson a visual aid that will help the class remember the size of a given unit of measure. You will receive a personalised note that tells you which measure to find.

For example, if your measure is the kilogram, you might bring a bag of sugar that weighs exactly one kilogram. You could even create a short story, a joke or a rhyme that links to how heavy it is. Make your presentation memorable so that, even in ten years’ time, your classmates think of you when they recall what a kilogram is.

Memorable Measures

This is a visual aid designed to be projected on a whiteboard to introduce a homework activity about measures.

Print the cards and give one to each pupil. You may give them out randomly or differentiate as needed.

If there are more than 24 pupils in your class, print two sets and select cards to hand out appropriately.

Finally, sit back as your pupils take turns to speak enthusiastically about their unit of measure. With luck, everyone will gain a better understanding of this topic.

You can find more activities about measures and mensuration on our topic page which is here.
